About Studio Z music and audio recording, production and engineering in Hillsborough, NC serving the Triangle areas of Raleigh, Chaplel Hill, Durham, Research Triangle Park, Morrisville, Cary, Apex, Burlingtion in North Carolina
Studio Z Productions was developed by two band members interested in making demos recordings for ourselves.  Through word of mouth and contact with other local musicians, we started offering services to others.  Our studio has a relaxed atmosphere, providing song editing, production, recording, and mixing.  We record both single artists and full bands and can provide additional musicians as needed for song development.  Also, we assist with CD layout, reproduction, and duplication.

Owner Zach Drill, has played in bands off and on since hewas 19 years old.  Zach plays both acoustic and electric music - covers and originals. He has recorded in various studios as well as here in his own studio.  Zach's primary instrument is guitar but he also plays some keyboards, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and percussion.  As a singer-songwriter himself, he offers assistance in song writing production and editing.

Studio engineer Dan Friedman, started playing bass as a teenager and supported himself in college playing in bar bands. His bachelor’s degree from Colorado College is in music theory/composition. After college, he toured the USA playing in bar bands and made some forgettable vinyl. He won an honorable mention in the American Song Festival and did studio work on radio jingles in Denver.

Dan started a music publishing company and moved to LA where he signed a number of writers, including Bill Dees, former songwriting partner of Roy Orbison. He placed multiple songs on an EMI Australia album that made it to #5 on the Australian charts and was released in Europe. Recently he recorded a CD of original songs called “Taste of the South” and plays bass in local band Zach Drill and the Bits. As the engineer at Studio Z in Hillsborough, he does live sound at Triangle area festivals. His newest adventure was producing and promoting a concert at the Carrboro ArtsCenter featuring many local songwriters. In 2019 he hopes to operate a small live music venue in Chapel Hill.
